‘Inventing new joinery, streamlining the making and seeing a piece come to life is really rewarding.’
Nathan Day is a designer and maker committed to a process and product that is personal. The idea that a collection of furniture can tell a great story is at the forefront of his mind and a daily inspiration.
As an independent designer based out of Western Australia, Nathan was excited by the prospect of collaborating with Dessein and its ensemble of Australian design collaborators. His early apprenticeship to a master craftsman, coupled with his passion for bespoke woodwork, sets him apart from the automation crowd. His modern meets traditional studio/workshop is evidence of this and Nathan relishes the chance to create hand crafted pieces which stand out in the Australian design landscape.
His aspiration to create high end products which can still be accessible in the local market marries well with Dessein’s commitment to affordability and speaks to a future of Australian design which is individual, accessible and sustainable.
