CARE & MAINTENANCE

When specifying and purchasing furniture, please be aware of the environment it will be used in. Sunlight, heat sources, pets, humidity, etc. can all affect the performance and longevity of your furniture. Regular care and maintenance is required to keep your furniture in good order.

TIMBER

Timber is a natural material; variations in the colour and grain are the natural characteristics of the timber. These characteristics enhance the beauty of the product and make each piece unique. To maintain the original appearance of this product, we recommend that you treat it with care and limit exposure to direct heat or direct/reflective sunlight. As timber is sealed with a protective coating, the only maintenance is to regularly wipe timber with damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Oils or other polishes are not recommended. Do not wet down surfaces or leave spills to sit on timber surfaces. Abrasive products are not recommended. Impacts against the timber are not recommended and will cause damage for which we accept no responsibility.

FINISHES

Spray painted finishes are standard across the Dessein Furniture range, the only maintenance required is to regularly wipe timber with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Oils or other polishes are not recommended. Do not wet down or leave spills to sit on timber surfaces. Avoid contact with liquid, heat and keep out of direct/ reflective sunlight. Use of abrasive cleaning products, materials of objects and impacts against painted surfaces are not recommended and will cause damage for which we accept no responsibility.

LEATHER

Regular Care: Protect from direct sunlight, direct heat and adverse weather conditions. Regularly clean and dust your leather with a clean dry cloth.

Cleaning: Do not use shoe, floor, laundry or other harsh general cleaners. Do not use shoe cream, general cleaning fluid or any saddlery products. Do not use any abrasive cleaning powders or pastes. Do not use solvent, furniture, floor or shoe polishes. Avoid any hard rubbing or scrubbing of the leather. Remove all liquid and food spills immediately. Clean contact areas of perspiration and body oils regularly. Always dust before cleaning. If using proprietary leather cleaners, do so strictly in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Buff with dry cloth. Dry in shade away from direct heat or sunlight.

Spot Cleaning: Clean as above, Persistent stains may require treatment by a professional cleaner.

Please Note: An excessive build up of perspiration or body oils may cause discolouration of the leather.

However, any such advice, recommendation, information, technical information, specification, drawing, description, illustration, dimensions, assistance or service provided by Dessein in relation to any products supplied by Dessein is approximate only.

Dessein Furniture makes considered and conscientious choices for all our materials, striving for sustainability. Sourcing materials which are readily available in the geographic region allows us to reward our customers with cost savings while also reducing waste and minimising environmental impacts.

HYDROWOOD

Dessein Furniture is a proud user of Tasmanian Hydrowood, sourced sustainably from the dammed Pieman River of Tasmania. A range of treasured Tasmanian timbers are salvaged from beneath the waters of Lake Pieman, where they would have otherwise eventually decompose releasing greenhouse gases. This is another unique way that Dessein Furniture strives to find the perfect harmony between its customers and the environment. Take a look at the unique beauty of our Pieman Range.

RUBBERWOOD

The Rubberwood used by Dessein Furniture is an agricultural waste product from latex production. Rubberwood is also know as "Plantation Hardwood". available in large and renewable quantities throughout South-East Asia. As a sap producing species, Rubberwood yields latex for rubber based products so the plantation trees have already served a useful function. After tapping is finished, the tree is felled and a new sapling is planted, the mature tree is then used for furniture production. Rubberwood is economically viable and ecologically sound. The wood has a similar grain quality and colour to Oak which is why it’s often called ‘Asian Oak’.
