Dessein's Spool Stool in new-think learning spaces

July 15, 2015

Well-designed schools can help bring out the very best in students. We were thrilled to be involved in a recent project for Marcellin College in Bulleen, Victoria. It’s nice to think that our contribution can help improve educational outcomes!

Cox Architecture were engaged to reimagine many of the learning spaces at Marcellin and we worked closely with them to ensure the furniture complemented their overall design. Both the designers and the client were looking for transformative pieces that were fun, positive, versatile and robust.

Among the Dessein pieces chosen for this project were our Spool Stools, which proved the perfect fit for the school’s discussion areas. Designed by Jon Goulder, their flexible function is valuable in domestic, commercial and school environments – they can stand alone as stools or be used together to form the Plank Bench. Aside from outstanding functionality, their aim is to uplift and provide pleasure, engagement and interaction to all who use them.

The Spool Stools are made from solid rubberwood and moulded rubberwood ply and are available here, in a natural or black finish. You can also opt for a natural top with a choice of white, red, blue or green legs. Marcellin went for the brighter option!

Marcellin College is extremely happy with the results and they’ve given our furniture a thumbs-up for use in secondary educational environments. “The furniture pieces we purchased were modern, fun pieces that are very different to your normal educational furniture, which we think gives a total new appeal to different spaces within a school environment,” they said.

We had a great time working on the Marcellin College project with Cox Architecture. It was fun to go back to school – and never we stop learning!
